A Novel Control Strategy of Crosswind Disturbance Compensation for Rack-Type Motor Driven Power Steering (R-MDPS) System

The wind suddenly blown to the side of car (i.e, cross-wind effect) is considered as one major lateral disturbances, which causes unstable motion vehicle and persistent driving fatigue for driver who tracks desired travel path. In particular, a commercial having large area greatly affected by this effect. Therefore, many related automotive/car manufacturers still wish equip their Advanced Driving Assistant System (ADAS) with crosswind disturbance compensation control system. Meanwhile, in recent advanced systems, rack-type motor-driven power steering (R-MDPS) system more widely used than column-type MDPS (C-MDPS) due structure advantage effective assistance. Recognizing those two issues, paper investigates novel anti-control estimation strategy R-MDPS vehicles non-negligible surfaces. Specifically, an adaptive observer (D.O.B) has been proposed estimate Furthermore, using optimal theory, designed assist possible situations. One when continues steer under effect crosswind, other temporarily loses addition, mode selection conditions between controls are clearly presented maximize efficiency performance Finally, effectiveness evaluated based on Simulink/Carsim Co-simulation HILS environments.
